About Grove Tennis Club
Grove Lawn Tennis Club (Grove LTC) is a small friendly club. It is the oldest club in Huddersfield, having been founded in the 19th century. It is also the last club to play on red clay courts, which many players find are kinder to muscles and joints.

You can find Grove Tennis Club on Heaton Road, about 40 metres from the roundabout with Gledholt Road, just across from Greenhead Park’s bowling greens and cafe. Look out for the green gate.
There are three clay courts which are open from April to October, weather permitting. You can play social tennis at any time and balls are provided. Juniors must be accompanied by an adult.
The club has a Mens' team in Division 4, Huddersfield & District Lawn Tennis league (2023 Season).
If you are interested in joining, call in on Friday evenings, contact us by email at [email protected] or call John (07767 875 277) or Adrian (0771 867 9114).
What's On
Mens' matches will mostly take place on Tuesday evenings. These will be advertised on the notice board and take precedence over social tennis. Members will be invited to join a WhatsApp group where they can contact others to arrange to meet up.
Monday – Check availability, one court should always be available, even when matches are arranged.
Tuesday – Mens' team matches (alternate weeks, but check dates which will be published in the clubhouse)
Wednesday – Club Night - Reserved for Social Tennis with no League games to be arranged beforehand. New members are especially welcome, giving them an opportunity to meet other members. There will be a rota of committee members present to answer any queries and to mix in playing tennis.
Thursday – Two of the three courts to be used for occasional Calderdale League matches. Details will be advertised well in advance on the notice board.
Friday – Social Tennis
Saturday – Coaching Sessions (to be advised)
Social tennis (also used for maintenance when advertised)
Sunday – Social tennis
Once a member, you can keep in touch via our WhatsApp group, arrange to meet others and we will try and keep up to date with any changes to the timetable.
Members can use the facilities at any time when there are no matches.
Non members can play as guests for a charge of £5 per session (maximum 3 times per year).

What Our Members Say...
Grove Tennis Club is a hidden gem in Huddersfield. My wife and I have been made to feel very welcome. The clay courts are great to play on and there is always someone to play with if I turn up on Social Night. |
I have recently returned to tennis and Grove has been the perfect club. I have never been to a club where members are so friendly. Nobody is here to show off. I like the fact that I can put out a message on the WhatsApp Group and arrange to meet another member there. |
Club Courtesy
We don't have strict rules at Grove, but we do expect members to be friendly to all players and visitors at the club. We also ask that you leave the courts and clubhouse in the state you found them (or better).
The following list is a few of our regular courtesy practices that help make our club welcoming and fun.
Be aware of other players: Players may be new to the game and may appreciate some patience or understanding. Alternatively, players may be playing an important point and trying to focus on their game. If a ball strays on to another court or on the area behind the court, wait until the point is played before retrieving your ball. Avoid bad language.
Tidy up: Brush courts with the big brushes when you finish, ready for the next player (instructions on brushing are available in the clubhouse or you can ask). Brush the white lines with the small brushes (if required). Lines only require brushing if they are covered in dust. Return brushes to their designated places and leave them on their side to let the bristles dry out.
Maintenance: Grove relies on members for ongoing maintenance of the courts and clubhouse. Please support the club as much as you can. Job lists will be available showing you what needs to be done and how to do it.
Security: Lock up the courts, the clubhouse and the gate when you leave. Ensure all lights are switched off.
Club night: Rotate players to ensure everyone gets a game. We are proud to say that our club offers kindness and encouragement to all players.
Court Availability: In the unlikely event that all courts are in use, please consider offering to play doubles to accommodate more players. If a member arrives alone, then it is typical for players to invite them to play and join in at the end of the set.
Issues: If you have any issues or niggles, please let us know. You can speak to a member of the committee or you can leave a note on the noticeboard or you can contact John on 07767 875277 or email [email protected]
Thank you for helping to make Grove the friendliest tennis club in the area!
